Back in the Saddle

It’s a coding saddle. I haven’t ridden a horse in years.

Been a long time since I’ve really put some serious work into coding. I definitely hit a big wall of burnout! It’s happened a lot over the past year. A lot has happened in my life besides the pandemic and all the other fun stuff going on everywhere.

But this morning, I thought of a fun new React app to make! We’ve been watching Season 2 of The Witcher (for the second time) in our house, and I started thinking of having some way to keep track of what shows I want to watch, what platform it’s on when I watch them, and a bit of a rating system to keep track of what I really enjoyed and would watch again.

I’m choosing React honestly just because I really enjoyed working with it. It was the last section we studied while I was at Flatiron. And the funniest thing about it is, I really wasn’t very good at it. But I can see the potential, so I’m sure as heck going to try and understand this better and dive into React more!

That’s me trying the go through the React door.

I used to think I would enjoy working on back-end programming more. However, there’s something really satisfying about front-end development when you’re learning. Front-end has the potential for that instant gratification — when something works you usually get to see that thing work. And that isn’t always the case with back-end development. There’s something very helpful to me about actually seeing the code work and being able to understand why.

So! I am going to start a new React app and see where it takes me! I have a lot of studying to do. And I’m sure I will run into lots of errors at first, but that’s how I learn.

Wish me luck, and I’m sure I’ll check back in soon with another story of how my React adventures are going! Thank goodness for excellent documentation and Google.

Thanks, John, I’m sure I will. A lot… here we go! Back on the coding train.
